In the 1703 census there were 387 male names and 338 female names. Back then it was very rare for people to have more than one name. In the census among the Icelanders (there are a few Danes mentioned), there were only two persons, siblings that had middle names. Those were Axel Friðrik Jónsson, farmer at Hamrar in Grímsnes og Sesselja Kristín Jónsdóttir at Saurbær on Kjalarnes. They were the children of Jón Sigurðsson from Einarsnes.Source: Fréttabréf Ættfræðifélagsins 4.tbl 2001 s.19
